A Florida woman recently spoke with West Palm Beach Florida’s WPTV5 about her experience with NuvaRing side effects that could have killed her. She warned other women who are taking the vaginal contraceptive ring to beware of the most common symptoms as they can lead to serious injuries and even death.

Shooting, Severe Pain In Chest

That’s what a 31-year-old athlete said she started to experience after her doctor prescribed Merck & Co.’s NuvaRing. The woman, whom wishes to stay anonymous, was training for a half marathon, told WPTV5 investigators that her workouts became harder and harder. She told reporters:

I kept thinking, gosh, I’m out of shape. I need to push harder … I was breathing hard and sweating … I had a cramp in my leg from my knee to my ankle for about three days [and] I kept trying to stretch it out … A shooting, severe pain was in my chest and I was pushing on it so hard that I actually caused a bruise.

She thought she might be having panic attacks. She wasn’t. Her symptoms were eventually traced to NuvaRing side effects. She says that she was lucky that she didn’t suffer any permanent injuries. However, she did the interview so that other women might be more aware of some of the most common NuvaRing symptoms and avoid what she went through. She said, “To have as many symptoms as I did, that’s what scares me. Other people could not have the slightest clue that they’re dying.”

Beware Of These NuvaRing Side Effects

Although NuvaRing has been linked to very serious side effects such as deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, stroke, heart attack, blood clots and more, the drug’s label warns users to seek medical attention if they experience any of the following:

• Sharp chest pain, coughing blood or sudden shortness of breath (possible clot in the lung)
• Pain in the calf (back of lower leg; possible clot in the leg)
• Crushing chest pain or heaviness in the chest (possible heart attack)
• Sudden severe headache or vomiting, dizziness or fainting, problems with vision or speech, weakness or numbness in an arm or leg (possible stroke).
