Over two million women use Bayer’s controversial Mirena IUD (intrauterine) birth control device. However, its usage is being linked to serious Mirena side effects, which according to an Ohio woman, caused her to be rushed to the emergency room where doctors had to surgically remove the IUD.
“I Started Getting Severe Pain”
That’s how an Ohio mother of three described her ordeal when she began experiencing Mirena side effects. According to a report from Cleveland News WEWS, the woman – simply identified as Sara – told reporters that she was implanted with the Mirena IUD three years ago. However, when she started getting severe pain in her abdomen, she knew something was terribly wrong. She told WEWS reporters:
I started getting severe pain. The pain eventually became so severe I went to the emergency room. They did an X-ray and saw that the IUD had completely perforated my uterine wall and was just floating around in my abdomen. Doctors had to perform surgery to remove the IUD. It was horrible. I would never recommend it to anyone.
Like Sara, thousands of women have alleged that they have experienced serious Mirena IUD side effects, such as migration of the device resulting in perforation of the uterine wall, the intestines or other internal organs. It can also embed itself in the uterine wall or elsewhere in the abdominal cavity – causing severe pain, uterine bleeding, ovarian cysts, vaginitis and pelvic inflammatory disease.
