Monsanto Roundup Cancer Lawsuits
The Driscoll Firm, LLC, currently is investigating claims of people who developed non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma or other forms of cancer after using Roundup weed killer.
According to the New York Times, recently unsealed court documents raise serious concerns about the safety of Roundup weed killer “and the research practices of its manufacturer, the chemical giant Monsanto.” In 2015, an international panel found that Roundup’s active ingredient, glyphosate, is “probably carcinogenic.”

What Health Problems Are Associated with Roundup?
As the Times reports, Monsanto has marketed Roundup in the U.S. since 1974. Today, it is the country’s most widely used herbicide. Farming operations, golf courses, garden centers and homeowners routinely spray Roundup and its main ingredient, glyphosate, to kill weeds and crabgrass. In fact, consumers spray an estimated 220 million pounds of glyphosate each year in the U.S., according to the Times.
While the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has found no link between glyphosate and cancer in humans, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) offers a different conclusion. In 2015, the panel found that glyphosate caused cancer in animals subjected to lab tests. The chemical also harmed DNA in human cells.
The IARC report indicates that agricultural workers face the highest risk of suffering cancer from glyphosate exposure. However, the general population may also face a cancer risk from consuming glyphosate-contaminated food or water or from using Roundup weed killer around the home on their lawns or gardens.
In recent years, people across the country have filed lawsuits against Monsanto, claiming that they developed non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma from glyphosate exposure, according to CBS News. The plaintiffs allege that Monsanto failed to warn of cancer risks associated with Roundup and, in fact, tried to conceal those risks.
According to the Times, internal company emails uncovered in litigation indicate that Monsanto may have actually funded and guided academic research that the company has, in turn, relied on to assert that Roundup is a safe product. “The disclosures are the latest to raise concerns about the integrity of academic research financed by agrochemical companies,” the newspaper states.
How Can The Driscoll Firm Help You?
The Driscoll Firm has a deep background in litigating cases that involve defective and dangerous products. Our lawyers have served as class counsel, state liaison counsel and members of committees that guide the direction of nationally significant product liability litigation.
We can draw on our experience to conduct a thorough investigation of your case. We can determine whether you or a loved one developed cancer from Roundup use and assess the damages you can seek through a personal injury or wrongful death claim. As part of our investigation, we will gather and review your medical records, take depositions and consult with highly knowledge experts.
When numerous people allege that the same product caused similar harm, a single court may oversee their individual lawsuits. This is called multicounty litigation (MCL) or multidistrict litigation (MDL). Centralization allows cases to reach quicker resolutions. In some situations, people harmed by the same product may join together in a class action lawsuit.
The Driscoll Firm can advise you on whether to join existing Monsanto Roundup litigation or to pursue an individual product liability claim. In either case, our goal will be to ensure that you recover full compensation for your medical expenses, lost wages, pain, suffering and other losses.
