What is Nuvaring?
The drug injury lawyers at The Driscoll Firm, LLC, are helping women and families who have been harmed by using the NuvaRing birth control device.
NuvaRing is a flexible, transparent plastic ring about the size of a silver dollar. It is inserted manually into the vagina and works by releasing hormones into the body to prevent pregnancy. Available only by prescription, NuvaRing is the only vaginal hormonal contraceptive sold in the United States.
Unfortunately, NuvaRing birth control has been shown to have dangerous – and perhaps fatal – side effects.
Have you or someone you know used NuvaRing and experienced blood clots, stroke, heart attack or even death? If so, you owe it to yourself and your loved ones to obtain a free and confidential evaluation from a NuvaRing injury lawyer at The Driscoll Firm, P.C. Call 888-511-0123 or use this contact form.
NuvaRing Risks and Dangers
In 2011, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration conducted a study that found a 48 percent higher risk of sever blood clots in women using a NuvaRing contraceptive ring compared with those using other birth control methods.
Similar research in Denmark found that women who use NuvaRing have an up to 90 percent higher risk of venous thrombosis than women using other contraceptives.
The World Health Organization has recommended stronger guidelines and warnings of NuvaRing health risks.
Reported NuvaRing dangers include:
- Blood clots
- Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
- Heart attack
- Stroke
- Pulmonary embolism
- Liver cancer
- Gallbladder disease
- Death
NuvaRing Litigation Is Exploding
Women, and in some cases their surviving relatives, have begun filing lawsuits against the big corporations – including Merck, Organon Pharmaceuticals, Akzo Nobel NV and Schering-Plough – that have made millions of dollars making and selling NuvaRing.
These lawsuits claim that NuvaRing patients and their doctors were not adequately warned about NuvaRing dangers.
NuvaRing has been heavily promoted – especially to young women – as a “first-of-its-kind contraceptive” in print ads proclaiming “Let Freedom Ring,” splashy videos staged as movie musicals, catchy taglines, Facebook posts, and product placements on popular TV shows.
